Travel Up

No matter where or how we go, travel is always extraordinary, taking us outside our ordinary experience.

What if it could do even more, taking us up to the next level of our mental, physical, and spiritual lives?

That’s the goal of Travel Up, a next-level experience carefully designed to expose you to places, people, activities, and ideas that inspire and elevate.

Travel Up is a different kind of vacation, one that changes you forever and for better.

What you can do with us

  • See Paris through the eyes of Ernest Hemingway and the ex-pats of the Lost Generation and try your hand at capturing the modern City of Light in words, paint, or food.

  • Immerse yourself in the landscapes and cityscapes that inspired Shakespeare, Dickens, Keats, and their fellow writers in "This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.”

  • Walk in the footsteps of Benjamin Franklin in London and Paris and learn how this self-made author, scientist, activist, diplomat, and philanthropist crafted a method for self-improvement, a method that we can apply to our own lives to realize amazing results.

Founders in Philadelphia

Here is what’s included:

  • Four nights at the Independence Park Hotel. This establishment is a boutique hotel within the Best Western corporation. The hotel has only a few rooms with a king-size bed (those rooms cost $30 more per night); all the others are queen rooms, so if you require an extra large bed, you’ll want to book right away. Here’s the link to book and pay for your room. Book your room before March 15 to take advantage of the special rate I arranged.

  • Breakfast each day is included in the price of the hotel.

  • A 3-day, all-inclusive, Go Philadelphia museum pass that you can use for entry into the sites we visit as a group and also when you are seeing Philadelphia on your own on Saturday afternoon.

  • Admission to any site that is not included in the museum pass.

  • All meals, except lunch on Saturday, are included. (Alcoholic beverages are not included.) Most of the restaurants are offering a selection of entrees for our visit.

  • Transportation for sites beyond the historic district, will be arranged by Lisa and provided by Uber.

In other words, the cost of the entire Philadelphia experience—apart from any optional activities you choose and lunch on Saturday—is included in $1,500.

Paris, France

American Patriots in Paris

Step back in time and follow in the footsteps of the Founding Fathers in Paris. Stroll through their neighborhoods and visit the places they would have frequented. Explore Saint-Germain-de-Prés and the Latin Quarter, stroll the halls of the opulent Palais-Royal, wander through manicured Luxembourg Gardens and delight in a private tour of the Louvre that focuses on the art that Thomas Jefferson, John Jay and others would have admired. Delve into the role that Paris played in the early years of the republic with expert guides and through the presentations of two Indiana University professors.

Your guides

Best of all, you do not need to do this trip alone.  You will travel with two experts: historian Chris Young and Franklin scholar Mark Canada, who have curated the entire experience for your enjoyment and edification.  Professor Young is a scholar of the Early Republic with a special interest in Thomas Jefferson.  Professor Canada is the author of numerous articles and books, including the Audible Original Ben Franklin's Lessons in Life.

Professors Young and Canada will help you get the most out of your experience, providing recorded multimedia lectures for you to watch in advance of your trip, along with reading recommendations.  During the trip, they will enhance each day's activities with commentary and discussions.
